Working and Living in the City of Groningen
Groningen is one
of the oldest university cities in the Netherlands with a student population of
40,000 divided equally between the University of Groningen and the professional
colleges within the Hanzehogeschool system.
The City and
province put a high premium on technology development and commercialization as
witnessed by the excellent science park and incubator facilities within its
boarders.
Lively open
markets take place on the Grote Markt (great market) and Vismarkt (fish market)
in the center of the city and Groningen offers a wide selection of shopping,
restaurants, and night life to choose from. The Stadspark, Hoornse Plas, and
Noorderplantsoen offer enjoyable green space within the city, and a short
bicycle ride out of the city will delight your senses with the Dutch
countryside.
